Travel Photo taken in Jamaica

Scenic photo taken at a destination wedding.

I took this photograph while on assignment for Playboy in Jamaica. We were shooting models at the SuperClubs resort. After the shoot I was walking on the beach and saw this really nice newlywed couple being photographed by the resort photographer. We started talking about weddings and I mentioned that aside from shooting for Playboy Entertainment I also shoot weddings. It wasn’t long before l they asked me to take some photos for them. This was one of the photos from that day. The photo was taken on Kodachrome slide film using a Nikonos camera. Kodachrome was one of the first successful color films. It was used for both still photography and cinematography. Due in part to the growing popularity of digital photography, Kodachrome was discontinued in 2009. Processing for the film was then ended in December 2010. In 2017 there was a rumor that kodak may reintroduce the film, but a representative for the company later stated that this was unlikely. There are several pop culture references based around the film, including Kodachrome, the song by Paul Simon, and the 2017 film by the same name. The Kodachrome Basin state park was also named after it making it the only national park to be named after a brand of film. The Nikonos camera was released by Nikon in 1963 and designed specifically for underwater photography. It was popular with both professional and amateur underwater photographers for almost four decades but after the rise of digital photography Nikon saw no reason to continue with the series and discontinued the camera in 2001. However, the camera remains popular within a secondary market.

As far as wedding photography goes this photo was simple to take. The clouds created a soft flat lighting situation which made shooting this image easy. I did use photoshop to add drama to the clouds. Living in South Florida destination wedding are very popular so it wasn’t surprising seeing a couple alone in Jamaica taking photos.

As a South Florida based wedding photographer I travel to the Caribbean Islands all the time. Because many of the small wedding that take place in Jamaica and the islands happen during the week, it's no problem for me to hop the short flight to photograph a wedding or elopement. The much larger weddings often take place on the weekends and I also photograph many of those as well. If you are planning a destination wedding in the Caribbean and are looking for destination wedding photography feel free to either call me at 561 737-5561 or send me an e-mail at jeffkolodny@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you!
