When recently engaged couples think about weddings in South Florida the first though that usually comes to mind is, a wedding by the beach.\u00a0 However, not every South Florida bride is interested in tying the knot at the beach.\u00a0 For some brides the thought of the wind blowing recently styled hair, or feet cover with sand isn\u2019t enticing.\u00a0\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong, a beach wedding doesn\u2019t always mean wind blown hair or sandy feet, however as a South Florida wedding photographer I have shot my share of both.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If you are planning a wedding that is not on the beach, I would recommend visiting the Sundy house in Delray Beach.\u00a0 \u00a0For those not familiar with Delray beach, it\u2019s one of South Florida popular locations.\u00a0 The main road through Delray beach is Atlantic Avenue.\u00a0 If you are looking for fine dining you have plenty of choices both along and just off of Atlantic Avenue.\u00a0 If you want the beach, the beach at the end of Atlantic Avenue is wonderful.\u00a0 \u00a0For couples having out of town guests, the area around the Sundy House has plenty of hotel choices.\u00a0 Anyone visiting South Florida is sure to have a great time hanging out around Delray Beach.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The historic Sundy house<\/a> is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Palm Beach County.\u00a0 As a wedding photographer I find that there is no limit of picture taking opportunities both in the Sundy House and around the grounds.\u00a0 When walking the grounds you will find several Savanna-style gazebos, picturesque streams and waterfalls and freshwater ponds in which Koi Fish make their home.\u00a0 In addition the Sundy house in Delray beach features a pond which is located in the perfect place for taking romantic bride and groom pictures.\u00a0 Every time I work at the Sundy House I find myself shooting new and unique wedding pictures.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If you are a nature lover than getting married at the Sundy house is an excellent choice.\u00a0 The one acre property has a woodsy feel and is filled with a wide range of tropical trees including fruit trees, flowering trees and scattered pockets of bamboo groves.\u00a0\u00a0 Couples planning a Sundy House wedding can get married in several different areas of the property.\u00a0 If you have many wedding guests having a lawn ceremony is on of my favorite spots, if you have a smaller guest list you can tie the knot under the Savannah styled gazebo, and of course the Cenote pond always makes for an incredible backdrop.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When I arrive at the Sundy House to start the photography I usually find the bride and groom in separate bungalow getting ready.\u00a0 The bungalows on the property are very stylish and decorated in the same Savannah style as the venue grounds.\u00a0 The fact that the bungalows are all close to each other means that I can take pictures of the bride and her girls and then visit the groom and his guys for some additional pictures.\u00a0 Once the bride is in her gown I can set up the first look in which the bride and groom get to see each other for the first time before the weddings.\u00a0 The fact that there are so many great shooting spots at the Sundy house, \u00a0finding a private picturesque location for this first look is easy<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Once the bride and groom have seen each other, and spent some time talking, we will venture around the grounds, taking pictures in as many locations as time allows.\u00a0 Every inch of the one acre property has something unique to photograph.\u00a0 Pictures can be taken at the pond, in front of the bamboo gardens, buy the house and on one of the wooden bridges.\u00a0 After I have spent enough time photographing the bride and groom, we will meet up with the family to take the family pictures.\u00a0 I always finish with enough time for the bride to hide when the wedding guests start to arrive.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Usually wedding ceremonies at the Sundy house finish just before sunset.\u00a0 This is perfect because the hour before sunset is what is referred to as The Golden Hour.\u00a0 This is the time when the light is the softest and has a warm glow.\u00a0 It\u2019s the best time for taking bride and groom portraits<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As the sun sets, and the incandescent lights become brighter and glow more vividly the Sundy House starts to look like a different wedding venue.\u00a0 As an experienced South Florida wedding photographer, shooting under tungsten lighting opens up a world of additional photography opportunities.\u00a0 If the bride and groom are willing to break away from the wedding reception for a few minutes I could shoot many more unique pictures.\u00a0 \u00a0During the wedding reception I try to take as many party pictures as possible.\u00a0 My wedding reception coverage includes a wide range of dance pictures, and guest pictures.\u00a0 One of my goals during a wedding reception is to photograph every wedding guest.\u00a0 My wedding reception coverage will include casually posed guest pictures as well as wild party and dance pictures.\u00a0 Of course I also photograph all the toasts and all the wedding events as well.<\/p>\n

\"Wedding
Because the weather in South Florida could be unpredictable it’s always helpful to be prepared. \"Bride
When I shoot a wedding, I try to be as creative as possible. After photographing lots and lots of weddings, I have developed a few tricks. Bridesmaids in the mirror is one of my favorites.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Sundy house has a very unique atmosphere which makes for very creative wedding photography. \u00a0 The property consist of a set of bungalows which have a rustic vibe. \u00a0In the above picture, I posed the bride by the wardrobe mirror. \u00a0Then I got her bridesmaids to crowd together for the mirror inset photo. \u00a0At the Sundy house every bungalow is unique. \u00a0Some of the bungalows have a wooden vintage look while others have different colored interiors. \u00a0Whenever, I work at the Sundy house, I’m always excited because I know I’m going to get unique images.<\/p>\n

\"Bride
The lush gardens at the Sundy House in Delray Beach provide beautiful picturesque backdrops. I love the bamboo trees scattered all through this gardens.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Above and Below: \u00a0 These wedding pictures were taken in the early afternoon just after the first look. \u00a0 One of the most picturesque features of the Sundy house is the properties lush landscaping. \u00a0All through the grounds you will find small sets of bamboo trees which provide lovely unique background scenery. \u00a0In the shot above I posed the bride so that the train of her bridal gown is hanging off her arm. \u00a0While they are holding hands I had them take a walk for the camera. When I create these walking action shots I often start with both the bride and groom looking at the camera. \u00a0Then during their walk I have the groom look at the camera while the bride looks at the groom. \u00a0Next I have the bride look at the camera while the groom looks at his bride. \u00a0I have found that the best way to get great couple shots is to make sure the bride and groom have fun while taking pictures. \u00a0When a couple has fun during the photography, you can see the positive attitude and expressions all over their faces. \u00a0Also, the act of walking while holding hands always looks good because the couple is photographed in action. \u00a0I have found that people photos always look best when one of the people is doing something. \u00a0 The wedding photo below was taken on the upstairs walkway just outside the maid of honors room. \u00a0At this time it had started raining, the overhang provided shelter from the rain, while allowing me the take pictures that still had an outdoorsy look. \u00a0The hight of the groom compared to the bride worked perfectly for this kiss the forehead shot.<\/p>\n

\"Wedding
Doing this pose allowed me to show the brides face, her gown, the flowers while also conveying the beauty of the Sundy House.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This risky wedding photo was taken at the Sundy’s house tropical pond. This is one of the most picturesque features of the Sundy house in Delray Beach. \u00a0 Many of the wedding guests were afraid that the bride or groom or both may take a fall into the drink. \u00a0If course, if that happened I would have captured the unique moment. \u00a0 If you are not familiar with the Sundy house in Delray Beach, Florida. \u00a0It’s one of the few garden wedding venues that is perfect for a small intimate wedding. \u00a0As a South Florida wedding photographer, I have photographed a wide range of weddings at this luxury venue. \u00a0Some of the weddings I have shot here have been small 20 guest weddings, others have been over 60 guests. \u00a0The Sundy house is more that just a wedding venue, it’s also a hotel with special suites. \u00a0<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The natural beauty, landscaping, make the Sundy house Delray Beaches number one historic hotel.\u00a0 While there are other places to stay during your visit to Delray beach, none offer the feel of living in nature like to Sundy house does.\u00a0 Looking to plan a garden wedding in a private location, the Sundy House is your best choice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The main Victorian, Queen Anne Styled building has a history of hosting high-end luxury weddings, birthday parties, and other events.\u00a0 Guests can enjoy hanging around the main indoor bar, or partying the night away on the outdoor covered patio.\u00a0 As South Florida is still recovering the COVID Pandemic, wedding guests can take comfort in the fact that the Sundy House has plenty of outdoor areas and the outdoor covered patio if perfect for enjoying a wedding reception while still social distancing if necessary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The main house was built in 1902 out of pinewood from Dade County, and was the home of John Sundy and his family.\u00a0 At one point the Sundy House served as Delray Beach\u2019s first church, which is fitting because it\u2019s still a very popular wedding location.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Today the property and house has been restored using all natural materials including bamboo, tile, stone, and a variety of woods.\u00a0 All around the main house, hotel suites and property, couples and wedding guests will find wonderful artwork, statues, bridges, and flowing streams<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At the top of a short pleasant uphill path, wedding guests will find a beautiful tranquil pond with live fish swimming in the beautiful water.\u00a0 This is the perfect place for brides and grooms, to take their romantic and family pictures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The charm and wonderful experience of a Sundy House wedding doesn\u2019t end with just the visual delight of the tropical garden.\u00a0 The cuisine served at the Sundy House is the best in town. Dishes such as Colossal Lump Crab Cake, Tuna Tartare, Seared Scallops, are just a tiny taste of what the Sundy House has to offer.\u00a0 Don\u2019t even get me started talking about the Sunday Brunch.\u00a0\u00a0 As a South Florida wedding photographer, I always look forward to taking pictures at this awesome location.\u00a0 Every wedding I photograph at the Sundy House looks unique, because there are so many great and unique photo spots at the Delray Beach wedding gem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This is one of my oldest wedding pictures from the Sundy House. Usually the bride doesn’t start her wedding ceremony by walking down this staircase. This shot must be at least 10 years old.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\"Romance
This is one of the places at the Sundy house that doesn’t get it’s due attention. This smaller building with a ballroom inside is tucked away in one secluded section of the property. Always on the lookout for a unique photographic opportunity, I find this location as an additional perk.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Sundy
This wedding reception featured the most beautiful floral creations. The long tables, Chiavari chairs<\/a>, and twinkle lights, made this room look splendid.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Artist
How cool is this? The bride and groom hired a live artist to paint the first dance scene during the wedding. This on one of my favorite wedding ideas. Having an artist, painting during the wedding, always gets lots of extra attention from the wedding guests.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\"Bride
This walking picture was taken on one of the walking paths at the Sundy House. The gardens around this Delray Beach wedding venue include walking paths that run all through the various landscaping.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Having photographed over six hundred weddings in South Florida, I find that working at the Sundy House is always a treat. \u00a0Because of the waking paths that travel in all different directions, I can always find a path that travels in the perfect direction, with the perfect background. \u00a0After seeing her wedding pictures, this bride wrote me a very nice thank you note. \u00a0The bamboo in the background created a very unique background. \u00a0While there are lots of wedding venues in South Florida, I have found that the Sundy House is one of the few venues that has bamboo trees that are scattered in the perfect places making the photography more interesting.<\/p>\n

\"Bride
I had a blast walking around the Sundy House with this couple. Because we built in extra time for pictures, we got to explore take pictures in lots of different places.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The grounds among the gardens provided us with plenty of photographic opportunities. \u00a0Because the landscaping is so lush and beautiful, Portrait pictures in all directions. As a South Florida wedding photographer, I have plenty of experience shooting pictures in a wide range of lighting conditions. This gives me almost unlimited creative options. \u00a0In the picture above, I positioned the bride and groom so that the sun was hitting them from behind. \u00a0By doing this, the sun acted like a hair light, creating a dose of extra drama while also, providing soft facial lighting. \u00a0Once I had the couple posed, all that remained was to capture their expression. \u00a0In addition, her gown really looked awesome with the light passing through the veil.<\/p>\n

\"Bridal
This Light and Airy bridal portrait was taken on one of the rustic wooden bridges which leads from the guest villas to the restaurant’s back patio. Whenever, I produce my light and airy images I follow some photographic rules.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

ABOVE<\/strong> – \u00a0As a photographer who has acquired a wide range of skills, including photographic printing I have a set of rules which I insist get followed. \u00a0This light and airy photograph above checks all the rules. \u00a0The first rule of wedding imagery is not to blow out the wedding gown. \u00a0While light and airy pictures have a certain unique artsy appeal, I insist that the image of the \u00a0bridal gown shows detail. \u00a0I can’t tell you, (The reader.) how many light and airy wedding pictures I see in which all the detail in the brides gown is so light that the detail is all gone. \u00a0Loosing detail in a while bridal gown is a result of poor exposure control. \u00a0For example, if the exposure to too high and the detail in the gown is blown out, there is no way to bring back that missing detail. \u00a0While it’s true that in some situations, a portion of the lost detail could be made to look ok, by filling in the light highlights with a texture or a color.<\/p>\n
