I shot this portrait of a Bar Mitzvah boy during the cocktail hour of his party. The party of a Bar Mitzvah is one of those times when the Bar Mitzvah boy, or Girl if it's a Bat Mitzvah, wants to enjoy the party. During this time the Bar Mitzvah want's to be with his friends who are playing games and having fun. If you are going to take portraits during this time the photographer should keep in mind that he can't spend the entire cocktail hour doing photos. It's fine for the photographer to spend some time shooting family portraits. However, the photographers should also see to it that the family has some time to enjoy the party.
For this photo I worked quickly and wanted to get a beautifully posed photo. I also wanted the photo to project element of fun and convey a casual atmosphere. Since the photo is of a Boy, "Bar Mitzvah" I decided that it would be best it he sat on the chair backward. By sitting backwards on the chair the back of the chair became an armrest which acted like a posing table. I shot this at a wide f-Stop which helped to through the background of of focus.
