Working as a Boca Raton Photographer certainly gives me the opportunity to meet and photograph some very interesting people. This photo of Pilot Dan Rooney was taken during a corporate event which took place at the Boca Raton Resort and Club. The special event was part of a sales training and team building event that lasted several days.
If you have never heard of Lt Col. Dan "Noonan" Rooney here is a little background information. Dan Rooney is an American hero who has served as an F-16 fighter pilot in Iraq. He is also a well respected motivational speaker who was named "Hero of the Year by People Magazine. He has also been awarded many honors for his philanthropy and scholarship awards. During his lecture he spoke about the challenges and hard work it took for him to become a fighter pilot. During his lecture at the Boca Raton Resort and Club I was tasked with photographing him in action. I wanted to produce several images of him speaking with his imagery in the background. This took the perfect combination of a fast shutter speed and a wide open F-Stop mixed with electronic flash. As an fast moving dynamic speaker, Dan Rooney showed an enthusiasm that commanded the attention of the entire audience. He also moved around the stage a lot. Having shot many special events as a Boca Raton photographer I have developed the skills required to capture many images that show his personally in pictures.
If you are a photographer and are interested in the stats for this photo, it was taken with a Nikon D3s at 1/40th of a second with an f-stop of 2.8 at Iso 640. I used the 1/40th of a second shutter speed because I wanted to make sure the image behind him was also viewable. Had I used a faster shutter speed I the image of the fighter planes behind him would have been too dark.
