Sundy House Wedding in the Rain

Bride and Groom wedding photo taken in the Rain at The Sundy House, Delray Beach.

If you have never been to the Sundy House in Delray Beach then this is a must visit wedding venue. When someone thinks of a South Florida wedding, the mind usually visualizes a beach wedding, either at a hotel on the beach or at a venue with a beautiful ocean view. However, if you are planning a wedding or Elopement here in South Florida and are not a fan of the beach then I suggest a visit to the Sundy House.

The Sundy house is a beautiful tropical garden wedding venue, with it's lush landscape and running springs it's a wedding photographers dream location. As a South Florida wedding photographer, I'm always looking forward to working at the Sundy House.

While Delray Beach has some beautiful wedding venues such as The Morikami the Delray Beach Marriott and the Mizner Country Club the Sundy House is unique. By the way, they also have an amazing Sundy Brunch.

South Florida weather could be crazy, sunny on one day and totally wet and raining the next. The weekend of this wedding was a mixed bag. Friday was a beautiful, sunny warm day. Then on Saturday, I it rained and and rained. I actually had two weddings on Saturday, The first one was at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. If you are planning a South Florida beach wedding with your toes in the sand then the Pelican Grand is for you. (If it's not raining.) However, on this Saturday, it was not only raining, but it was beyond windy. The wind on the beach was so strong you could not go outside. The second the doors to the beach opened the wind entering the building could blow you away. Needless to say, I had to shoot creative wedding photos indoors. The plan for the Pelican Grand wedding was for me to shoot the first 4 hours, then my other photographer, Albert would take over.

When I arrived at the Sundy House it was raining non stop. The bride and groom along with the wedding planner, Breeze Taylor planned ahead and made sure some stylish umbrellas were on hand. Whenever, I photograph a wedding, or book the wedding, I try my best to determine what the bride and groom are like. Some couples are go with the flow types, and will do anything to get creative photos, others would never consider getting a single drop of water on their bridal gown. Luckiy for me, this bride wanted her photos, even if it meant shooting in the rain. So with umbrellas in hand we marched out doors and made photos.

As a professional photographer, I always purchase the best pro cameras that money can buy. The camera companies know that pro photographers are often shooting in extreme conditions. Since my cameras have weather sealing I had no issue shooting outdoors in the rain. While the pro cameras are weather sealed they are not water proof. If you submerge a camera, even a professional camera underwater, it's finished. However, in this situation my camera performed perfectly.

Having been a professional photographer for over 30 years, there is almost nothing I won't do to get a great shot. This wedding proved that if you are ok with getting a little wet, you can make some really fun, and beautiful wedding photos.
